in the 1861 census my ancestor's occupation is given as "Iomtoocupner farmer" can anyone tell me what this is please????

That has to be a very strange transcription!

If you give your ancestor's details,we can look at the census document and see if we can come up with suggestions.

I think you will find it is the 1851 Scotland census, not 1861, and if you look at the original the occupation is 'Joint Occupier - Farmer"

its 1851  Blaiket, Urr, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland, Robert Thomson and Joint Occupier makes sense as he was living with his brother John
