Mothers Full Name on Birth certificate ?
« on: Saturday 16 April 16 14:50 BST (UK) »
Just a quick question. If I order a birth certificate that was dated 1930 in England will it contain the full name and surname of the mother. I know her surname via a bmd free index record but need to know her full firstname(s ).

Hi Pedude,

The first name(s) will be whatever the informant gave at the time eg my name is Jan on my children's birth certificates rather than Janet as on my own birth certificate.

Jan ;)

It may not show her middle name, but is quite likely to have her first name.

It should do.

It may not give a middle name though, even if she had one, but birth certificates generally tell you the mother's first name and surname.

If you are looking at an index such as Freebmd, and she was married to the father of the child, why not look for the marriage which should give you both bride and groom's first names.

Cannot find a marriage record just their two children birth  records which show just her maiden surname

Thanks LadyJayne...that should do it .....the parents did not appear to have married but had 2 children so without her first name almost impossible to track her after the birth of the children.
