Emma Harman 1852
« on: Friday 22 April 16 08:56 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm trying to piece my family history together. My great great grandmother was Emma Harman. She had 6 siblings. Her mother was Mary Ann Hobday(maiden name) and she married George Harman. Emma Harman married Edward Barton and had a daughter Ellen Rose, (known as Nellie and married George Wellard, she was my great grandmother. Nellie had a daughter called Gladys Irene Wellard. Gladys was my grandmother and she married George Field. Their son Ronald Field was my father. I'm looking for more information also on Mary Ann Hobday, my great great great grandmother as I can't seem to go further back than that.

Hello and Welcome to RootsChat  :)

I think the family came from Dover and in 1861 Mary Hobday/Harman lists her birthplace as St Margarets nr Dover.

I wonder if this could be Mary Ann's baptism from Family Search in 1822 at St. Margaret-at-Cliffe, Kent?  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JQWT-GLZ

1851 census in Dover

George Hobday 59
Ann Hobday 57
Sarah J Hobday 34
Susanna E  Hobday 24

So Mary Ann's parents were alive when she married but no mention of the father on the marriage certificate and no family witnesses.
