Have you attempted to find the births of Fred and Beryl on free bmd?

The only Fred I can see in Berkshire is one born in Hungerford in 1918 as Frederick C J Goddard, but he does not appear to have a sister Beryl.

The only Beryl that appears in Berkshire is Beryl F Goddard in 1931 in Wantage.
What sort of birth year was Beryl?

Have you tried to find Fred and Beryl in 1939 - or are they possibly both still alive?

There is a marriage in 1931 Newbury reg district on freebmd that could fit Beryl.  Newbury RD covers Bucklebury

This looks like her birth

Not in 1931 - Bucklebury was in Bradfield RD until 1937.

spec has replied to me by pm to say that Nobby was born around 1922/23 and that Beryl was older, but only about a couple of years.

I cannot see any Beryl's or Goddards in Bucklebury in 1939, so perhaps they moved away before then?

Similarly, was Beryl born elsewhere, or was that a second name?

Hello there

My paternal grandfather was a Fred Goddard and he may have come from Berks, from vague memory. He would have been born about the time you say; I can confirm that. I don't know if he had any siblings or not.

He was a survivor of Dunkirk. He married Anna Porter from Belfast N.I. in Derbeyshire directly after the war and they then moved to Oxford where my father Christopher Goddard was born.

They later moved to South Wales and lived in Sully, near Penarth, where they raised three  children in total.

I'll try and look up more stuff about this if you're still on here/interested.

I'm looking to find that marraige certificate myself.

Cheers  :)

Astrosmurf - Your Fred was Frederick R Goddard who married Anna E Porter in June quarter 1941 Shardlow, Derbyshire (so married earlier that you state).  Your father born 1949.

He appears to be a Frederick Robert Goddard born 27/2/1915 Derby, Derbyshire, mmn Meakin, and death registered 2000 Cardiff.

So no link to Berkshire.
