Looking for Mary Clough in 1871
« on: Friday 22 April 16 19:15 BST (UK) »
Hello,
Can anyone help me find Mary Clough on the 1871 /
She was born in Bowling on 1/8/1868 to Benjamin Clough & Selina Clough (nee Hillas) she was baptised 31/3/1872. By this point her mother had died, Selina died in 1870, found it odd that there was no mention of this on the baptism record. Her father married Ada Scholes in 1885
Benjamin appears to be living with his father in 1871 with no Mary!
(joseph clough widower, Benjamin Clough W, Joseph, Arthur & John Clough, Sarah Waddington living at 11 Canning? St Bowling, Bradford)
The next time i can see her is 1891 living with Benjamin & Ada going by Maria. I can see a prison entry in 1882 for a Maria Clough born 1871 but at 11 yrs old i can't make out what!

Thanks  :)

Not really ad she had just lost her mother. May have been boarded with friends but often happened with young children when lost family,
My hubbies great aunt was lodged out when mother died. Father left with lots of little ones. She turned up in 1911 with ,grandparents, - only they weren't,  related at all.

Hi,

Could this be Maria was with her father in 1881,

1881  RG11/4307  f.106  p.26    Silsden  Yorkshire
Eliott Street

Joseph WALKER                 Head    M    63    Stoker                  Bradley    Yorkshire
Hannah WALKER                 Wife    M    50                                      "
Bethsheba WALKER            Daur    U    17    ??  Weaver            Silsden
Benjamin CLOUGH    Son-in-Law    M    35    Joiner                    Bradford
Ellen CLOUGH                     Daur    M    30                                       "
Alnia CLOUGH              Grandson    U     7    Scholar                  Silsden
Hannah CLOUGH               " Daur    U     3                                    "

Margaret A. CLOUGH         " Daur    U     1                                      "

I think Alnia is really Alma a Granddaur :-\

I can't find a marriage for Benjamin CLOUGH and Ellen WALKER but I have found a death for a Ellen CLOUGH which is before Benjamin's marriage to Ada in 1885,

Death
Ellen CLOUGH    Sep Q 1883    Skipton    9a  29
Age:  32

On Maria's Prison record it shows that the place of committal was Skipton and that she was born in Bradford, so that would fit with the above census as Silsden was in Skipton Registration District.

Daisy
