Help Tracking Down Descendants
« on: Sunday 24 April 16 15:49 BST (UK) »
I'm having trouble tracking down the descendants of James Brayshaw Dillon and Frances Stephanie Buckley (married 1926 in Lancaster). I'm rather keen to see if they left any descendants but have never had much success in tracing people into the present forward from the 1911 census (during 1911 James was living at 5, Market Entrance, Lancaster).

The only possible child of James and Frances that I could find was an Edward Russell Delaney born in 1926 in Openshaw, Manchester and the Mother's maiden name is given as "Buckley". The surname Delaney might be a mistake on the part of the registrar and "my side" of the Dillons were living in Manchester which might explain a move to Openshaw. It's still very uncertain though.

If anyone could help out I'd be very grateful.

One thing I forgot to mention (but possibly rather important!) is that I found what seems to be James on the 1939 register with his Wife Frances. However, Frances's surname was written down as "Dillon" originally and then crossed out in green ink and replaced with "Drummond".

Given the combination of forenames: Frances Stephanie and what was written on the 1939 register: "Frances S" it seems that the person on the register is the same person that James married. So can anyone suggest why different surnames were given?

And to make things even more complicated there is a 1961 marriage of a Frances Stephanie in Lancaster and on the Lancashire FreeBMD website it gives several possibilities for the combination of surnames. I've attached a screenshot.

The 1939 register was updated for a number of years afterwards, that crossing out in green ink reflects the remarriage of Frances in 1961, presumably James had died.

Ah, okay, that makes sense. That's the most confusing part of it all sorted!

Thanks JJ, I've just had a check and there's no will on the probate service.
