Yes isabella is her sister. I have researched the black and nothing I have census searched the address again with nothing but he is definitely My Robert as I have traced his ships from leaving the Inde right through to his death in Liverpool. I have traced Isabella McLauren Hutton who became Mrs Rankin and she disappears from scotland at same time as Janet and appear in liverpool at the same time as Janet.

I have Scotlands People credits I shall look at that census now.... I had missed that  :o

Clever thinking Fifer....sounds logical to me at least  ;D

Annie

Thanks Annie, just thinking "outside the box" but only helps if it provides some answers!  ;D

Maybe now would be a good time in this thread to put it all together in a timeline?

This one 1871 & address should be checked against census if we have a specific date before census for Robt jnr's navy admission.

Just wondering if you noticed on Robert Mark Jnr admission in 1871 That his mother's name is down as Janet Black 104 Gerard Street. Also anothert relative is an aunt Mrs Rankin 19 Back Berry Street.
Cheers Sue

And this I agree is probably Janet Mark/s jnr and means her parents/brothers were likely working elsewhere. Helpful though since there may be other misheard "Marsh"s.

1861 Scotland census

James Hutton 1798 Hollywood, Dumfries
Mary Hutton(Smith) 1803 Kirkcudbright
James Hutton 1827 Kirkcudbright
Mary Hutton 1845 Kirkcudbright
Janet Marsh(?Marks) 1851 Liverpool Lancashire. Grand Daughter

Yep we need a timeline of known facts  :)
Ireland, Co Antrim: Kerr; Hollinger; Forsythe; Moore
Ireland, Co Louth: Carson; Leslie
Ireland, Co Kerry: Ferris
Scotland, Perthshire/Glasgow:  Stewart
England, Devon/Cornwall: Ferris, Gasser/Jasser/Jesser, Norman

I shall do my best to get a timeline together..... I have had a breakthrough..... I have found  a living relative from the Huttons (Isabella - Mrs Rankin - Inde record) and she has told me that their family believe robert & janet eloped! she is away at present but has papers that she will look into in a month when she is home from her family visit.... Looking positive though to pinpoint a date!

She also gave me an address she believes they are at in 1861 2 Everton Street BUT number 2 doesn't exist I have scoured the census in was its an addendum as an empty house and added as a note etc but nothing  :'(

I shall collate a timeline as soon as possible.

Thank you to you all for your help and advice. It is most generous of you all to have offered your time. I will get back with that timeline ASAP  :-*
