Mmm....there seems to be a 10 yr gap in births from Margaret to the following 3 siblings 

Margaret McGuffog lawful daughter of James McGuffog and Ann Broadfoot was born at Nethertown 2nd December 1837
There are also entries for three other children of James and Ann on the same page Agnes born 14th April 1847, John 8th March 1849 and Robert 8th January 1852

The point that concerns me is that we have a minimum fifteen year period covered on the same page. This would either imply a very low birth rate in that Parish or that the records were compiled at a later date after the events and their accuracy might then be called into question.

Although I think Tomba was hoping to go the other way to find James birth and parents.

Although the family appear in Kirkpatrick in the 1841 census and it is the birthplace of several of the children  there is nothing to indicate that they originated there.

Given the relative consistency of his age through the census records have you given any thought to the James McGuffog born in 1803 and christened on 5th June 1803 at Crossmichael, Kirkcudbright (the son of James McGuffog and Margaret Riddick)
