Agnes Bibby's husband?
« on: Wednesday 27 April 16 15:01 BST (UK) »
The 1891 census on Family Search shows Agnes Bibby, wife, age 25 born Openshaw, living in Fairfield, Derbyshire. Can someone give me the details of her husband?

She's living with her sister, Elizabeth Thornton.

Have you checked FreeBMD for a marriage?

Yes thanks. I have that but I cannot find John Edward on the Family Search census. Is he on the next page? Why is Agnes listed as wife? Who is the Head? Should she be listed as widow? I think he may have died.

There is no Head of Household! ::)
Just Agnes and Elizabeth in the Grocer's Shop.

Incidentally, Ancestry have made a right old hash of transcription?!
Agnes is down as Aban Redinver? :o
Surname copied from the line above, which has been mis-transcribed as Redinver from Skidmore?!

You didn't give his name! Just asked for details of her husband so we did our best to find out who he might have been!

What was his occupation? I think when I was looking at this earlier there was a John Bibby on aship or in one of the forces somewhere. Might he be somewhere like that?

Hi Liz. His occupation was pattern card maker and it appears he died in 1899 (FreeBMD) so Agnes was not a widow. I guess that John Edward was away from home and would normally be Head of Household so the enumerator described her as wife (correctly or incorrectly?). John may not have been recorded on the 1891 census.
Thanks to everyone.  :)
