Prison 1901

If I wanted to find out someone was in prison in or around 1901 how could/would I go about it? Where is best to look?

Local newspapers or the 1901 census.
Dinsdale, Ellis, Gee, Goldsmith,Green,Hawks,Holmes,  Lacey, Longhorn, Pickersgill, Quantrill,Tuthill, Tuttle & Walker,  in E & W Yorks, Lincs, Norfolk & Suffolk. Census information is Crown Copyright from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

I can't find him on the 1901 census I can find his family but not him, kinda hitting my head off a brick wall with him.

Was he a single man in 1901 and have you found a death for him?

Thomas Wilson believe 1873 birth no idea about anything else, I'm useless I know. No he was married, and he was back with his wife in 1911. Living in Newcastle

What was his wife called and what is his birthplace/occupation on the census you do have?

I've recently found one of mine who was missing in 1901.  He was overseas in the Second Boer War (1899-1902), have you tried military records?  I only found out as Anc threw up a military clue and I found some fab information once I started down that path.

His birthplace is Newcastle. His wife is Mary Elizabeth and his occupation is general labourer at the saw mill.
