Slaugham Parish Registers 1790-1820
« on: Saturday 30 April 16 20:39 BST (UK) »
Is anyone able to check the Slaugham parish registers for the baptism of Amos Wells between about 1791 and 1800? His parents were Daniel Wells and Mary Stone - married 10 May 1792 in Bolney, Sussex.

Thanks

Matt

Can't see any entry for the baptism in Slaugham on the SFHG transcripts.  Looking at the births of his children on the 1851 census he does seem to have moved around a lot.  He is age 43 in 1851 and 51 in 1861.  I see he was a widower when he married Esther Goldsmith in Jan 1837.

Scans of the original PRs are viewable on familysearch but not downloadable - https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/229018?availability=Family%20History%20Library.  You need to have a free FS account to view them, but don't need to be a church member.

Daniel WELLS/Hannah HOLDEN Married 17 September 1815, Cuckfield, Sussex
(F/S.Org)

On Census Amos is born c 1808-1811

I think Amos is more likely the Son of Daniel WELLS of Slaugham and Mary STONE who married 10 May 1792, St Mary Magdalene, Bolney
(FreeREG)

Hi there

Who was it who married Esther Goldsmith? I know that Daniel Wells was married to Mary Stone and she died in 1852. He died in 1851. As far as I can tell Amos was married to Agnes but I don't have a date for that marriage yet.

Hi Trish

Yes you're right Amos was the son of Daniel and Mary. There are a lot of Daniels in both the Wells and Holden families. A simple typo on my part sorry lol.

It was Amos Wells c 1808-1811 on Census that married Esther Goldsmith 1837.
sillgen has access to the record which must state he was Widowed.

1841 we have;
Amos Wells, 30
Esther Wells, 25
Mary Wells, 4
Esther Wells, 2

Hi

Thanks for that info on Amos. What website can I see that on? I've not heard of 'sillgen'.

Do you have any other information on him or know who his first wife was?

Matt
