Hi,
The following is a connection to "The Library of Birmingham" Images, which show some
inmates of Saltley Reformatory 1890 -1901. There is no image of John Armitt, but they
may have other images.

LEED
Youthful housebreakers - Frances Armitt (12) and her brother aged 8, were charged at the
Police Court yesterday with housebreaking at Sheen on Monday and Tuesday last. During the
absence of the prosecutor, named Rose they broke a pane of glass and got through the window
and stole 40s in money, a watch, coffee pot, knives and forks and a bonnet. When caught by the
Police they had invested a sovereign in cakes, boots and toffy. Each accused the other. They were
remanded, pending being sent for 5 years to an industrial school.
The North-Eastern Daily Gazette 27th May 1884
same info but this one names the brother as being John aged 8
They both pleaded guilty.
It states the boy was put in guardian ship of Grandfather, whipped and later discharged.
The girl Goal for 1 month and then 5 year in reformatory.
However it looks as if this report could be incorrect, because you know that it was John in the
Reform School.
