Bettles Mill in Hemingford-Grey c1810
« on: Monday 02 May 16 08:50 BST (UK) »
Hi
I have an ancestor, Thomas Cleghorn, who moved from London to Hemingford-Grey around 1810 to become a mill-wright at one of the mills there. He married a lady called Elizabeth Crain in 1811 in Fenstanton and they had their eldest child there before moving back to London where they remained.

I am trying to determine whether he was apprenticed to a mill owner by the name of Bettles. His mother was called Susannah Bettles so I'm trying to join the dots.

Does anyone have any information?

Jackie

Can't find an apprenticeship record but Huntingdon Archives at http://calm.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/CalmView/Overview.aspx?s=bettles has the 1829 will of Thomas Bettles, millwright of Hemingford Grey

Hi Bedfordshire Boy

Thanks so much for that. I'll get in touch with the archives to see if I can read the will and find and names that connect. Thanks so much. I'm hoping he's connected to a Susannah Bettles (possibly son or cousin etc of) so now need to also look for his family tree....!
