Many thanks JM.

That has given me plenty to add to my tree.

Re Charlotte and Maitland, I don't know.  It was suggested to me by one researcher she was the illegitimate daughter of a John SHIPLEY, a mariner from Northumberland.

Death 1899 SHIPLEY JOHN AGE 85 YEARS   DIED NEWTOWN

Stratford's older brother William Henry is the one who connects to my tree. This is one of many little problems in my large tree that might be helped by the purchase of a certificate transcription. I've decided to look at all the problems several times before I get to the stage of deciding which ones require a purchase.

Perhaps not New Zealand but Tasmania?

Regards,

Fred

Tasmania and New Zealand had both been part of New South Wales, but gold fever was attracting inter colonial movements to NZ rather than to Tas in the late 1860s.  I cannot find Stratford (any variations) on my NSW 1870 ERs.   Mine are hardcopy, so I have only got through the Sydney and Metro electorates so far.    If you are at the NSW State Library, perhaps you could ask if they have finally had sufficient funding to set up keyword searchable versions of these 19th century rolls.

Thanks JM.

I'll probably be at SLNSW Wednesday next week.

I've searched Trove and can't find further ref to either in NSW.

Fred
