Willsy,
That's splendid, thanks so much for searching that out for me.  The more information I can gather so much the better!  A pity his mother's name is indecipherable, that might have solved a mystery or two; it's looking more and more likely that I'm going to have to send away for his birth certificate too…

If you search for Hetty in the military records, I think it's the address matches on another's son records :)

There's also a military record for Albert from Kensington c1900 on the Surrey Regimental Rolls but I can't make out his mother's name but I think the address is W. Ealing

:)Just to be difficult-there's an Albert Joseph RUSSELL with a Mary ADA RUSSELL living at 18 Shaftesbury Rd (Acton) on the 1934 Electoral Register.

Oh dear, MaureeninNY!  You're not being difficult at all...
That looks suspiciously like it could be the Mary Ada WOOD I mentioned in my first post as being the bride of Albert J. (could he be Joseph, after all?) RUSSELL in 1925.
I fear I might have been involving a lot of good helpful Rootschatters on here in a bit of a wild goose chase if that is indeed true.
I suppose we've been trying to get at the truth, but I hope it doesn't feel as though I have wasted people's valuable time…

Hello Keith,
Came across this old post of yours.

My grandfather was Albert Joseph Russell, Grandma was Mary Ada Wood.
Alberts mother was Catherine Gorman. She married William Russell in 1906
They had several children, my grandfather was put into the poor school/ orphanage aged 3, he seems to have been born before Catherine and William were married.
My grandfather doesn’t seem to have a birth certificate, although his siblings do.
How are you related to this part of family
Regards
Rob Russell
