21 April 1929, said to be born 1 April 1929, Marie Terese Olga, parents Francis & Magdalene Martins, abode: Calcutta, Occupation: Asst Calcutta Ice Co at the Catholic Church, St Francis Xavier, BowBazar, Calcutta

If you pm me with your email address, I'll send the images on, they aren't brilliant as they are negative images taken on a microfilm reader which is backlit, but I can see if the quality can be improved by turning them positive on the computer.

Thank you very much, Dawn, and I apologize unreservedly, because I should have re-read and probably reactivated my previous post from 2014, of which my memory was quite faulty. I only remembered the necessity of getting to the British library and had even managed to forget all this advice you gave me about going there.

Hi Dawn,

I just looked at some of the British India Office Ecclesiastical Returns transcripts on a certain subscription website and the information on there is fairly limited and would seem to be imperfectly transcribed or registered in some cases. The mother's maiden name is not given and, in the case I'm looking at, her first names are given as "Mary Rose" for one child and "Rose Marian" for another.

I wonder if you could possibly tell me whether there is more information available at the British library (or somewhere else), especially for St Francis Xavier, Bow Bazar, Calcutta?

FindMyPast have imposed a closed period on records for people who are potentially still alive so the transcriptions you see online when you do a search may or may not be complete.

In the case of the 2 look-ups I did for you, I took full transcriptions and posted them here.

If you have done a search and found a record on FindMyPast, you should be able to see the image if the record isn't closed.

If there isn't an image online you can see the relevant entry on microfilm at the British Library.
