Hastings and Knight
« on: Tuesday 10 May 16 15:04 BST (UK) »
Hello all,

Firstly, I love the fact a man of the surname Hastings married a woman by the surname Knight.

Now onto the genealogy.
My ancestor was Jemima Hastings, daughter of John Hastings and Mary Waites. Jemima was baptized 17 Jul 1808 in South Leverton, Nottinghamshire. She had several siblings; Ann, Mary, Elizabeth, Gertrude, Hannah, Charlotte, John and Christopher.
I found that John Hastings and Mary Waites married 16 May 1786 at All Saints in South Leverton.

I have been unable to find the baptism/birth of Mary Waites - I did find a possible baptism in South Leverton on 5 Oct 1758 (daughter of William and Mary), but I later found out that this Mary Waites died in 1765. Help finding her family would be great.

John Hastings (baptized 18 Apr 1762 at South Leverton if the baptism is correct), who married Mary Waites, was (I think) son of John Hastings and Alice Knight - who were married 16 May 1761 in South Leverton. I cannot find any other children of John Hastings and Alice in the area - did Alice die? Or did they move to a different area? Help with finding out where John Hastings and Alice Knight came from would also be a massive help.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

It looks like John may have been married before he married Alice as there are two children bapt to a John & Sarah at South Leverton

William 16.2. 1752
Samuel 27.9. 1757

Sarah was buried 25.10 1760 wife of John
