Railway workers
« on: Friday 13 May 16 11:29 BST (UK) »
Would anyone know anything regarding records for people who worked on the railways in the I presume 1920/30s I've always been told my great grandfather was quite high up on the railways but unsure as to what he did, I know they lived in Acton and the house was right by the railway line. I've tried to google him but no such luck. Anyone out there who would know where to look? His name was George Herbert Richard Iley born 1894 and he married my great grandmother in 1919 at a church in Acton, any help would be great thanks!

England, Southern Railway Magazine: Jan 1840 - Feb 1942

No I didn't realise they did them? Haven't seen them when I've looked online, I have ancestry? I'm pretty sure it was the GWR he worked for I think.

Try the 1939 Register - assuming he's alive then, you should see his occupation listed ....

https://www.findmypast.co.uk/1939register?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Brand&utm_term=findmypast_&utm_content=Miss-pellings

you'll have to subscribe to see the Household - was his wife called Grace ?

Definitely have a look at the 1939 National Identity Register it will give his occupation. Your local library may have it.
