I'm looking for any tips or info on the parents of Margaret Lindsay 1838-1930 & her sister Dora1835-1917. Their parents names were Robert Lindsay & Dora Chadwick. The girls were placed in the hands of the County Tipperary Orphanage Society in 1841 in Clonmel.Their father Robert was a Land Steward in Clonmel. The girls were shipped to Australia in 1852.Their Natonality was given as Irish & Scottish.Apart from entrance to orphanage I have hit a complete wall . Looking through the orphanage records I found two brothers to the girls.an Andrew Lindsay born 1837 who was taken by friends & a Dutton Lindsay born 1836 who was withdrawn.Any suggestions where to from here would be greatly appreciated.
One of the girls have their father Robert as a Colonel in the Army on their marriage cert but I have had no luck in confirming this.

Thanks Heywood that is the only other info I found on him some time ago but have had no luck following him up in the U.S. As Dutton was withdrawn from the orphanage I assumed he was taken by the surviving parent or relative and was hoping there wouldd be some record of who it was
Cheers

On the same ship as Dutton is Nicholas Lindsay B-1831. There is a marriage in Charlestown, Massachusetts in 1854 for a Nicholas Lindsay to Bridget Hieher. It states Lindsay's father as Robert and mother Mary ? Both parties were born in Ireland.

Also, there is an entry for a Dutton Lindsay absconding from Clonmel Workhouse age abt 14 in 1846.
as found on family search website as well as assizes information for a James Lindsay on same site and in Clonmel
info@tipperarylibraries.ie
. records are held here I believe for the workhouse.
May have background information on his admission and circumstances, just a thought.
