Hi there,

Sorry,  I don't live in Sydney, so I cannot help with a photo.

Here’s an updated way to refer to the gravesite:

Area Zone B
Section 03
Grave Number 1145

Here’s the free to search website :

You appear to have lifted that info from an index on a subscription only website as that website does not include the grave numbers.

The grave numbers on my resource are 1144 and 1145.

My resource shows that the SAPHIR headstone inscription was transcribed by SAG in 1983 which is 33 years ago.

Rookwood is the largest cemetery in the southern hemisphere - 286 hectares.  Hopefully someone may be able to help you but they need all the details.  There is a map on their website.

Good luck.  :)

Cheers

I hope to visit the Cemetery in the next 2 weeks, some old areas of the Church Of England section of the Cemetery are very "wild" with high grass and lots of fallen headstone. I will give it a go but cannot promise that I will be able to find the grave. Hopefully the Cemetery office will have a detailed map of this area

Will let you know what happens

regards

That's kind of your Cass.  I didn't feel I should mention the state of some of the old Anglican cemetery in case it deterred people from offering to help.

A friend offered to photograph a headstone for me in the Anglican Old section but had a difficult time finding the grave.  She had a map but the area was overgrown and the grass was very high plus the area not really well identified. With help from another person, the grave was found under two big bushes which completely covered the grave and headstone.

I can give you some names of nearby graves with headstones if you like.  Just ask :)

Good luck.

Cando.

Thanks for the offer, I have the Rookwood disc and have printed of the "nearby graves" page. so at least  we know that there was once a headstone on the grave. As it has been there for 90 years I hope the wording will be legible, I will take a photos of what every I find.

A couple of years ago I went in search of a grave in the old Anglican section, and the lass in the office told me to watch out for Snakes.

Lets hope they might have mowed the grass and have a detailed map of the area in the office. I will do my best but cannot guarantee that I will find it.

Cass
