Elizabeth Geary (New York)
« on: Sunday 15 May 16 10:56 BST (UK) »
I have a Lizzie Geary in the 1880 census. Ever since I came across this record years ago i have always wondered who she is and where she went but could not find anything about her.
I only have the details as per the census record i.e. she was born 1865 in New York, parents born Ireland and she is a cousin (1st / 2nd????) of the head of household. I do not or have not yet any  Gearys in my family tree (in Ireland or USA), so the connection has always intrigued me.

She might be a young cousin to the wife, Mary Dunn, who was also born in Ireland, as were Lizzie's parents.  Consider researching Mary's family for a possible connection to Lizzie Geary.

I have not come across any Gearys in the mother, Mary's family. She was 'Tuite'.

1860
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MCWY-VW5
1870

If 'Lizzie Geary' was a niece of the mother Mary then the only possible sister is Ellen who is the eldest but she married in 1870 not to a Geary.
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:24MN-GNT
She only had one other sister but she's too young to have gone on and married a Geary and had 15 year old Lizzie by 1880.

So maybe Lizzie is a cousin through the mother, Mary's mother Ellen as per the 1850 census? Which would mean a sister of hers came to America also and married a Geary?
Or there is a Geary married into the Dunn side somewhere....

I have only come across two Geary families with an Elizabeth born around 1865 in New York in the 1870 census.

I have found this family in 1880 with Elizabeth so this is not her.

I haven't been able to locate this family in 1880

Hello,

I am a Geary descendant and I am working off of my great grandmothers documentation. She was born Veracunda Katherine Geary born 1909-she passed in 2000. Her mother was Lewis S Geary and Alice Frances Hands. Can anyone provide any assistance from there?
