Don't ignore that baptism. After the war Thomas Davidson  joined the merchant navy as a steward and there are records which show that he was born 25 September 1893 in New Brighton. One such record from 1918 shows his next of kin as his mother Mrs Gregory, 31 Flinders Street.

So could be the right one the Nellie Davidson is in a children's hospital in the 1901 census  ( hip disease ) the father Thomas is a gardener

There are records on Ancestry for Thomas Davidson maybe Shaun has different sources

Possibility this could be the father going by the occupation and the area
1891 Census working at Gothie House Liscard Cheshire
Thomas Davidson b 1858 Scotland occupation gardener

Looking at that 1891 census entry for Thomas Davidson in Liscard I wasn't sure whether he was at Gothic House or the next household. Below his name appears to be written "not wanted".

Not sure what you mean there but if it's about the 1891 census the puzzle is (a) whether Thomas Davidson the gardener was at Gothic House or next door at the Longview Coach House and (b) what does "not wanted" signify in the space below his name.
