Gippsland Times (Vic. : 1861 - 1954)  Thu 12 Jun 1902
"News of the sudden death of Mr Frank Baylis on Friday afternoon last was received
with regret by this community generally. Mr Baylis, who had reached an age beyond
the alotted span, had been a sufferer for some time past and it was anticipated his time here would not be for long, but his sudden decease was unexpected. His brother, Mr P. Baylis, predeceased him, and the only one of the three remaining is Mr C. Baylis, a well-known figure in Stratford, and a cricket enthusiast. All three brothers were and are amongst, if not the oldest, remaining remnant of Statford pioneers, and the family and have always been highly respected."

So that proves, Frank (Francis), Phillip and Charles in Australia - not sure about William R Baylis.

So it looks like Charles, Francis and Phillip Baylis came for gold mining?

Thank you whiteout7 this is very useful. We thought Charles came out for the Victorian Goldrush.
I intend on visiting Stratford again soon to talk with local historians.I visited Stoke by Clare 2013 but could not get any leads there.I just felt a feeling of family there.

Hi Moon Traveller.
Another newspaper article where Charles & Philip are allotted land in the parish of Bundalaguah, situated on the south bank of the Avon River, adjacent to the township of Stratford:

Another link to an Obituary in the Gippsland Times for Charles' brother Philip, who died 31 Aug 1897:
"Another old Gippslander, Mr Philip Baylis, died at the Gippsland Hospital on Tuesday after a long and severe illness.......... Mr Baylis arrived in the colony 45 years ago and at Sale 43 years ago. He was originally educated as a doctor but tempted by the tales of hidden wealth of Australia and left the old country before he had completed his course....... He was 67 years old and unmarried and we believe his only relatives in the Colony were his brothers Messrs Frank and Charles Baylis, of Nuntin.....

Perhaps the suggestion to use the rootschat ShrinkLink utility may be appropriate here :)
Make long links short.

TROVE articles can be identified with a link location if you go to the top left of the page and click onto details - copy article location link and paste the link to the board.

Assisted and Unassisted Immigrant arrivals index available at the Public Records Office of Victoria however if your people of interest arrived before the legislative requirement in 1852 to record ALL passengers, you won't find them if they arrived as unassisted immigrants prior to that date.

Unassisted

I won't list the family bdm's as the indexes are online and if you require an image of an historical certificate you can purchase online and immediately download.

Probate files are digitised and available on the Public Records Office of Victoria website - probate files for Charles, Frank and Philip to help you with your research :)

I suggest contacting the history/genealogy group at Sale prior to your visit.  Give them time to search their records before your arrival.

Thank you for the ShrinkLink link, Cando. I kept meaning to ask about it. Hoping it's going to work on the iPad.
