Sinann - just noticed that on the records that you located for the children, it indicates that the mother's birth surname is "NR", which I assume means "not recorded". Is it likely to be listed on the original civil record entries, or are the civil records a dead end for the mother's maiden name? I also just noticed that the death record I thought I had found for James in 1907 doesn't work; James was still alive in the 1911 census! The search continues...

Not recorded on the index, which is a pity as many are on that site, but she will be on the cert.

Your James born Co Down in the 1911 census in the original Household Return (Form A) is aged 69 so b 1841-2 he cant read, he’s leaves his mark, his occupation was changed from Car Man to Car Driver.. note as far as he couldn’t read or write see
your James in the 1901 census is aged 55 so b 1845-6 there is a signature somewhat blotted. the same source says he can read and write and he is a Car Properiter
I think this means the local taxi using horse and trap etc

Margaret nee Watt is 48 b ~ 1853 Ayr the census for Ayr 1851 from Genes Reunited  exists and includes two possibles if she was older than the census suggests
eg Margaret b  1849 Monkton Ayrshire daughter of  David Watt b 1812 Colmonell Ayrshire, a carter. m Jane Watt b 1824 Dundonald Ayrshire, the family living in
Portland Lane , Troon
eg eg Margaret b  1850 Ardrossan Ayrshire daughter of  John Watt b 1817 Steventon Ayrshire weaver and Mary Jean b 1819  Ardrossan Ayrshire, living in Windmill Street Ardrossan

you could Contact a library seeking when did james first appear in Bray Co Wicklow directories etc. write to one or other

CO DOWN
I looked unsuccessful for James Sloan[e] b ~ 1847 in Co Down amongst the 70 + James Sloan entries in http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rosdavies/SURNAMES/S/SloanAJ.htm
I then  reached the stage of wondering why he had gone to Wicklow eg a namesake is listed but wrong generation  eg one entry in Ros Davies

Hello dathai, BallaltikilliganG and Sinann - thanks you all for the replies. Your efforts are much appreciated. It will take me a while to go through it, but I will post what I sort out from it.
