Hi,

From other threads  (one is your brother’s)  I can see that your great great grandfather was Charles Mohamed DEEN and that back in August 2014 you examined the NAA file for his passport (1939 application) to go to India, with a promise to return within six months. Likely the declaration of War stopped him returning to Australia.  The issuing of the passport is confirmation that he was a British Subject.

Hi

It's been quite a while since my original post, but thought I'd give a little update on some recent info I've come across.

Just last month, the National Archives added to their online search database a passport application for a Mohamed Deen.  I ordered it and yes, it was my Charles Deen. It even had a photo of him,  which was fantastic.  I have been trying to find what happened to him for years and now with this latest info discovered that in 1939 he applied for a passport to go back India to apparantely sort out his fathers estate.  Looks like as they couldn't verify his true identity they only issued a one way passport and he departed Aust in Mar 1939.  So looks like Charles went back to India and possibly never came back to Australia, which is why I was having so much trouble finding his death.

Thanks everyone for your help trying to find him  and  just a reminder to keep going back to your "Brick Walls" as someday something could be added to a search database somewhere and viola you almost have your answer.

Mel.

Here’s a live link to the digitised image of that National Archives of Australia document.   If you check it, it will show he recalled (in 1939) that he arrived in Australia in April 1894 (page 22 of 25) .  The name of the ship has become difficult to read.  A different person has it as 1892 ( page 6).   If you continue to search through the National Archives index you may find other files for similar names, and those files can contain photos and also finger prints, just like this particular file.

Here's two suggested possible additional NAA files.
