... Bloomfield married Sarah Yeates on 14 November 1940 in Dublin. Unfortunately Irish marriage certificates of that date at least don't include professions, so I don't know what he was doing for a living. ...

Do you have a copy of the full certificate? from memory, I think any I have before and after this date do have occupations listed  ???
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

1939 Register of electors shows Bloomfield Usher 1939 to 1941 17 Charlevile Road he is not listed after this  however
17 Charleville Road from 1942 to 1951 lists Sarah,Robert (j),and Meyler Usher at that address

seems to be some overlapping
Bloomfield also shown at 3 Pembroke Road 1939/40 and 17 Charlevile Road 1939 till 1942.

1942/43 denotes Bloomfield Usher (j) 17 Charleville Road also at 3 Wynnefield Road (bussiness premises ?)

(j) denotes Qualified to serve as a juror

3 Wynnefield Road was occupied mainly by a Martin family around this time however the groundfloor seems to have been a shop or bussiness premises and is now a takeaway called Little Jerusalem.

Thank you hallmark! I don't think these Meylers and Ushers are my lot but of course they may be to Marion. Dathai thank you very much for these references. And as always Aghadowey makes the pertinent remark showing me I've made a mistake -- many thanks! I attach the marriage certificate which does indeed have a space for professions. What confused me was that neither of them states a profession so I thought this was something that wasn't actually ever filled in. A silly assumption on my part!
Condick; Bull (Herefordshire only); Layard; Wilmot; Southgate; Fowlie (Singapore branch); Usher (Dundrum); Kelley (Lancashire);
