Glancey family from Govan Glasgow
« on: Sunday 29 May 16 05:54 BST (UK) »
Am searching my grandparents family... Patrick Glancey married Margaret Marr Holland. Margaret comes from a long line of females named Agnes. However, I am unable to trace my grandfathers side. He was born 1926 and died around 1976 in the Isle of Man while on holiday. His parents are James Glancey and Norah Herrity. James was born 1889 died 1956 and Norah born 1899 and died 1979. That's as far as I can get... It is known Patrick's parents might have come from Ireland

ScotlandsPeople has James & Norah's 1916 marriage which you can get from them. This will give his father's name. He's called Glancy, without the "e".
The 1901 Irish census has 3 possibilities for him.

Just to add -
Norah's mother's maiden name is showing as Ryder on the death index on SP.

Adding this as it may be relevant(if the marriage cert. confirms details  :-\ ) -
Norah to John HERATY and Mary RYDER March 15 1899 Tubberhill

Norah Heraty married James Glancy on 27 October 1916 in Glasgow.  Norah Heraty was born on 5 March 1899, the daughter of John Heraty and Mary Ryder living then in Tubber Hill in Westport County Mayo.  Parents John Heraty and Mary Ryder got married on 5 January 1877 in Westport RC church, he was living in Fair Green and his father Patrick Heraty was a labourer, she was living in High Street and her father Michael Ryder was a blacksmith. The couple had several other children to those shown in the 1901 census return (Maria 1878, Margaret 1880, Thomas 1888, John 1889).

James Glancy was born on 15 December 1888, the son of John Glancy and Mary MacSharry  living then in the townland of Aghancarra, County Leitrim. Parents John Glancy and Mary MacSharry got married on 11 September 1870 in Carrick-on-Shannon RC Church, he was living in Drumsna and his father Owen Glancy was a labourer, she was living in Carrick-on-Shannon and her father Thomas MacSharry was a labourer. The couple had quite a few children, here is widow Mary and four of them in 1901 (other children were Ellen 1871, Bridget 1872, Anne 1874, Mary Anne 1877, John 1879, John 1880):

I'm related. Norah Glancy is my great granny, my mothers granny and my grannys mother. My two aunties, Nora and Margaret confirmed this, and as you'll see in the other four comments, the names kind of say it all. Norah and James had daughters Margaret (my granny), Norah and Vera.
