Viewing English parish record images from Australia
« on: Tuesday 31 May 16 14:28 BST (UK) »
Primarily Cumberland parishes which are not online. Is renting microfilm from FamilySearch my only option?

Why do they offer to send out microfilm to local LDS centres rather than convert their microfilm to CDs so they can be viewed in the comfort of one's home? My local centre has the unfortunate viewing times of 10am-2pm Tuesdays and Thursday.

What's stopping Ancesty, Findmypast or any archive centre just converting these rolls to digital media? Something about copyright?

Thanks

When LDS originally copied these records (possibly long before computerised records) it may be that they agreed, in return for getting the records, that they must be viewed within their premises.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Want to change places?  I'm in NSW at present but won't be here long enough to order any films.  Back home in WA, my nearest LDS centre is over 600km away.  Not exactly 'local'.
