Thomas Hinton died 1843 Ightfield - can't find his parents
« on: Saturday 04 June 16 10:32 BST (UK) »
this has been driving me mad for days, my Hinton family lived in Ightfield and so far all have been related
I found a will for Thomas Hinton died 1843 Ightfield, he mentions late mother Mary, brother James and great nephew Thomas Hinton son of nephew Thomas Hinton butcher of Tilstock. He leaves most of his possessions to Elizabeth and Mary Emma Forrester daughters of Ann Forrester who live with him.
I originally thought this Thomas Hinton bap 1795 to Thomas Hinton and Mary, he was left property by his mother, has a brother James and a nephew Thomas a butcher in Tilstock 1841 with a son Thomas, so all fitted, until I found 1841 census for Ightfield showing a Thomas living with the Forresters mentioned but aged 70, then a burial for Thomas Hinton in Ightfield 1843 aged 75

try as I might I can't find a baptism for him or a suitable mar for a Hinton to a Mary for his parents, the 2 Thomas's I have in Tilstock in 1841 are the only Thomas Hinton butcher with a son Thomas but I can't see how Thomas who died 1843 can be their Uncle

Hi,

If I'm reading you right - you can't reconcile the Thomas HINTON age 70 in 1841 with the FORRESTER womenfolk, to the Thomas HINTON who died 1843 and left a will (mentioning mother Mary, brother James, nephew Thomas, gt nephew Thomas,  the Forresters,  etc)?

The 1841 Census instructions meant people age over 15, were supposed to have their ages rounded down to the nearest 5 years.

So someone age 73, would be recorded as 70. Someone age 78 would be recorded as 75. Someone aged 75 or 70 would be recorded as such. Someone age 19, would be recorded as 15. And so on.

Cheers

There is a will in 1853 for a James HINTON of Tilstock, who had a mother named Mary.
There is a will in 1856 for a  Thomas HINTON of Tilstock, who had a late** father named Thomas.

Just having a look through them now - but before I write out a whole novel  ;D - do you happen to already know of these two men, and who they were?  The brother  and gt Nephew maybe?

** [Edit] My error : Thomas d 1856, his father was actually  still alive and was one of his son's Executors. See later post below, will transcript.

James HINTON who died, wil proved London 4th Jun 1853
He was of Tilstock, Salop.
Late mother named Mary .
Brother John Hinton - who is to receive the residue of the estate of their late mother.
Nephew Thomas Hinton, of the Red Lion Inn, Tilstock (son of John),  to receive his estates in trust, and to be his executor.
Gt-Nephew Thomas Hinton, son of  nephew Thomas, to receive the residue of his real & personal estate.

('His' refers to James)

so confusing, this makes it sound like the Thomas who died 1843 would be brother to James, but James mother Mary nee Dicken was born about 1754 so wouldn't have had a son in 1768ish ???

Hello
It seems that the butchers from Tilstock Shropshire are the son and grand son of
John Hinton and Martha Turner married  by licence 19.9.1804 Ightfield wit John Turner and Mary Hinton. He is a butcher over 21.
Children Thomas Turner Hinton 1.1.1805
              Elizabeth 22.6.1807
              Anne 26.3.1809 all Ightfield.

Martha buried 5.1.1832 age 51 at Ightfield and John it looks like 3.9.1863 born 1780.at Whitchurch.
John looks like he was baptised at Whitchurch 19.12.1779 s of Thomas and Mary Hinton
sister Mary 24.3.1782 and brother Joseph 20.2.1785
There are possible siblings James 8.6.1777 at Whixall and Winifred 23.9.1775 she is married by licence at Ightfield by permission of widowed mother Mary 21.1.1794 to Samuel Moreton farmer of Wem.

And possibly John Dicken Hinton 23.3.1788 Ightfield and buried 11.1.1813 Ightfield

Burial of father Thomas  11.11.1790.
Mary possibly 28.8.1820 age 66 so born 1754.
This would fit with a marriage at Whitchurch 21.1.1772 Thomas Hinton of Hanmer and Mary Dicken  wit John Dicken and John Hyde.

Your Thomas may be the Thomas s of Thomas Hinton baptised at Drayton in Hales 24.9.1766.
It's possible that Mary Dicken was Thomas senior's second wife which would explain why he died so much earlier.
ps burial for James at Tilstock 4.12.1852 born 1777
