Am looking for information on Maria Mcclellan (not her name at birth?) born about 1780 Died Mar 1852 in Kensington district. She was married to Edward Mcclellan a sea captain. She was widowed? She married Matthew Cotes wyatt in 1801.

Welcome :)

I see the marriage of Matthew Wyatt, bachelor, and Maria McClellan, widow, at St Leonard Shoreditch on 29 December 1801.

How have you identified Maria's first marriage to Edward?

I have identified that marriage date. In the book The wyatts an architectural dynasty it is written 'Maria Mcclellan, widow of Edward Mcclellan( a sea captain in the east india trade). Apparently he married without telling his father. Have searched ancestry and find my past. Most posts state her maiden name as mcclellan, which is incorrect as its her name by marriage?

They look an interesting family :)

Have you found the Wyatts in 1841, and/or traced Maria in 1851 when I see she's not enumerated with the family?

I haven't as yet. I have 1861 Census where Matthew cotes wyatt has re-married.  They are a very interesting family. Didn't expect to find a descendant burried in Westminster abbey.

Do you have a full list of their children in case given names (including middle names) provide clues to Maria's maiden name?

I see that in 1851 Matthew has with him a daughter Agnes Bland Wyatt b abt 1828 Marylebone.

There's a newspaper announcement in July 1862 of the marriage in Paddington of Agnes M'Culloch, daughter of the late Matthew Cotes Wyatt, to W.A. White, Esq, of Connaught Terrace, Hyde Park.

Am not sure this is the same Matthew. Matthew cotes and Maria had 4 sons. Sir Matthew B 1805, James II B 1808, George died 1880 and Henry B 1809. No mention of a daughter?

The 1851 census shows Matthew Wyatt, 75, gentleman born Paddington, at Dudley Grove House, Paddington with daughter Agnes Bland Wyatt, 23 born Paddington.

The address is consistent with several other records relating to Matthew Cotes Wyatt, the sculptor, including the 1861 census which you have seen.

Thank you so much, am totally baffled now. I wonder if she is Maria's daughter or Jane that is on the 1861 census age 65? Am so pleased my friend told me to try this site.
