Marriage Cert
« on: Sunday 05 June 16 00:29 BST (UK) »
Hi.  As a beginner, am trying to find what is the best way to research for a marriage cert, when you only have a female Birth Cert to hand.  Would I have to trawl through every county/country for each year that she was alive, to try and find her Marriage Cert.  Or is there an easier way.

Thank you

How do you know that she married if you only have her birth certificate?

Normally, if you know the name/surname of her husband, it cuts down on the searches required.

Depending on what time period you're looking at you can start here if it's after general registration started.

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

You can narrow down by district or county and look for the most likely suspects then taken your search from there to try and prove which one is correct.

Scully, Richards, Stepney, Goble ~ Sussex.
James ~ London, Essex, Sussex, Pembrokeshire.
Lochhead ~ Ayrshire/ Nielston Renfrewshire Scotland.

McCreadie, McQuaters/McWaters ~ Ireland
More to follow.

Do you suspect that she was married in Scotland?   or could it be  Wales or England?
