Bebside Furnace

These are photographs of Bebside Furnace. Does anybody have any idea of which year they may have been taken. I'm also interested in names for any of these streets/houses.

Thanks Carol. Bedlington forum is where I found the pictures. I'm trying to put names on the different streets. Most maps give only two street names: Paradise Row or Ocean/Sea view.

Hi Annie,
You can find various old maps of NBL/DUR on the Keys to the past site. This link should bring up a page about the viaduct and by scrolling around the map you should be able to find the furnace. You need to enlarge the scale of the map to bring up a list of old map options.

Thanks Mirl. I'm not doing too well in working backwards! I found a document where a former resident names 9 'streets' 1940-1952 and names the families in each. Of these, only Purvis Row, Old Gate and Wood Row would appear to house a larger number of families. I thought these may be the longer rows on the picture but, unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any of these on maps. Possibly there have been name changes. I'm still very new to this so maybe I'm thinking 'in the wrong direction'.
