Wow, thanks to you both again,

I will double check through all of my facts to see if I messed up with the birth date. if I remember correctly I was basing his age off of a 1841 census. I'm beginning to discover these are not the most accurate of records.

I will update you guys as to what I find out.

Again, many thanks

Joe

For the 1841 census ages were rounded down to the nearest 5 years, so if Matthew said he was 50 then the age range is 50-54, but if he wasn't entirely sure of his age - which isn't unusual - then even that could be wrong.  Remember also that the census records we view (apart from the 1911) are not the primary documents but were copied over by the enumerator from the original household schedules, so there is plenty of scope for error.

It may be worthwhile obtaining a copy of Matthew's death certificate to check the age given and also who registered the death.

Hello to the of you.

Well now, we have been on quite the chase with the information you two provided. I have records supporting Richard and Mary are the parents and that was the Matthew I was searching for. (I purchased the Great Bowden Parish records transcripts)

Without your help I would have been lost, hoping you can do it again.

Now lets jump ahead three generations.

I am now hunting for;

Francis Maine of Bingley, Yorkshire
Died 1731

Married Elizabeth Gotch in 1703 - Great Bowden

Children are

Richard Maine 1709/79
Rebekah Maine 1707/07
Isaac Maine 1707/08
John Maine 1705
Francis Maine 1704/05

Once again, any and all help is appreciated. Even a specific church would help.

Thank you again

Are you sure it's Bingley, Yorkshire?  There were Mayne's in Dingley, Northamptonshire in the early 1600's, and as Dingley is close to the border with Northamptonshire that might make more sense.

More information on Matthew MAYNE,
In the record office I found the book "Register of Freemen of Leicester"
Page 127 (date) 1807 May 11 Matthew Mayne, 3 s. of Richd. of Great Bowden, lab., who was 2 s. of Richd. , lab.     This confirms his Father for you.
Page 381
MAYNE, Richard, police-constable, 2 s. of Matthew who was 3 s. of Richd., lab., 18 July, 1845.
William, ostler, 1 s. of said Matthew, 18 July, 1846
Thomas, loom-hand, 3 s. of abovenamed Matthew, 6 July, 1855
George, shoe-maker, 5 s. of said Matthew, 12 Mar., 1858

I am researching the MAYNEs of Burton Overy.
