Baptisms St Saviour, Southwark 1761 & 1765
« on: Friday 10 June 16 06:16 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I've two baptisms but no parent(s) detail on either record. Can anyone ascertain for me if there is any additional information on the FHL film for their baptism, please? Both events are also on Ancestry but no parent details there either. This missing data may help me to break down a brick wall. Were both lads from the same family (maybe first one died and another lad was later given the same name) or were they cousins etc?

William Whitaker 19 April 1761 St Saviour, Southwark. FHL microfilm 307,706.

Wm. Whitaker 28 July 1765 St Saviour, Southwark. FHL microfilm 307,706.

I have not yet found a burial record.

Cheers,
Aussie

Whilst I cannot see the baptisms, there is a burial at St Saviour on 3 May 1761 for William son of Joseph Whitaker, brewer's servant, infant.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Cheers BumbleB, that's rather interesting! Our William Whitaker was a Publican, we don't know yet if he was from a family of brewers. Can you please tell me the source of that information? Much appreciated.  :) :)

I found it on Ancestry - London baptisms, marriages, and burials 1538 - 1812.

As you mention the records are on An………….ry, I have browsed through the originals and during the period they are in a poor state, most are impossible to read.
However the burials are a lot clearer.

William Whitaker (infant) Burial 3 May 1761 St Saviour Southwark father Joseph, a Brewers Servant.

There are baptisms for two children of Joseph a Brewer at St Saviour Southwark, mother on noted as Jane:

Elizabeth Whitaker 1 Feb 1754
Ann Whitaker 18 Feb 1759 burial 25 Fen 1759

Other St Saviour, Surrey Burials father Joseph a Brewer except the one below.

Joseph William Whittaker 16 Apr 1756 (Joseph a Victualler)
John Whittaker 8 May 1760
Jane Whitaker 28 Jul 1761

It would appear that Joseph and Jane were the most likely parents of both Williams.
