Sorry David I do not want to appear ungrateful but as it was obvious from what people commented that David was actually not a relative as he had died 2 years earlier than my husband's "Parfitt" that the enquiry had come to an end

Thank you everyone for the help you gave me  :)

Hello
I just saw the all the info about David and Mary Parfitt - my ancestors - via their son William born 1826 in Plymouth. I have a record of David's enlistment in the Royal Marines (from PRO Kew) with all his details.

I can add a little more about Mary West. On the parish record of their marriage at Plymouth Charles (Dec 5 1819) she is a widow. I have spent a lot of time looking for a Mary marrying a Mr West (and a death of a Mr West) in the west country but have come up with nothing logical. The most likely person for Mary West is the one baptised in Plymouth Charles on 18 May 1798. Her parents were William and Elizabeth (Haynes). She seems to have gone back to her maiden name - if it changed - after the death of her first husband. I would be interested in any comments.

By the way some of David and Mary's line (via Mary Ann) and Mary's line (via Alfred) continued: Alfred Parfitt's (1835) son George (1859) married Mary-Ann Parfitt's (1828) daughter Emma (1862). They had 6 children including Reginald Horace Parfitt (1896-1967).

Hello
Please see our recent posts about David Parfitt and Mary on Somerset Lookups. We now think she was Mary Welch a widow in 1819.  We think her first marriage was to John Welch in 1817, he died in 1818. She was probably Mary Sulivan.

Hello
I have been alerted to a Mary West baptised 16 Feb 1801 in Plympton as a stronger possibility.

Hello,
For the record Mary West married David Parfitt in 1819 at Charles Plymouth. David was from Clutton Somerset. He enlisted in the Royal Marine Artillery at Bristol on 30 Aug 1804. He served in Canada according to the 1815 muster roll.  Mary West was baptised in Plympton 16 Feb 1801. Her parents were William West from Plympton and Johanna Tall from Charles Plymouth
