Canadian & American Cousins

I am trying to trace descendants of;-

Dudley Gerald Snape     born 1886 circa   Islington, London.
Agnes Catherine Gillies  born 1896 circa   Cogan, Penarth, Glamorgan, Wales.

They emigrated to Canada (where they were married ?) and then onto the United States.

I believe they had several Children.

It would be better if the original post was moved over to avoid further duplication - I have asked Sarah if she could do this for you.

Have asked Sarah if she will move this post to Canada so that we keep everything altogether and it saves duplication.

Hello,

Obit for Dudley Gerald Snape is in the Globe and Mail newspaper, on Dec 28, 1950, page 23.  It says he died at his home, 286 Warden Ave, Birch Cliff, on Tuesday.. from a heart attack.  He was 64.  He had been with the Hudsons Bay company for "some years".

He had been a resident of Toronto since 1932 and had worked for the Ontario Liquor Control Board for a while. He was born in England, father was Bertram Snape, who had been involved with the management of the Hudsons Bay Company.  As a young many, Dudley had gone to South Africa and was a manager of a plantation.  He came back to England at the beginning of WW1 and served in France with the Imperial Army.  After the war, he came to Canada and was the manager of several Hudsons Bay posts in Manitoba, Northern Quebec, and Northern Ontario.  He travelled extensively in Europe and the Orient.

He was a member of the Legion of Frontiersmen, Beaches Post, Canadian Legion, Beaches Liberal Association and St. Nicholas Anglican Church, Birch Cliff.

Leaves his wife, Agnes C Gilles, daughter Mrs John Sweetman, son Dudley Barrington Snape, all of Toronto.  3 sisters and 2 brothers.

RK

Shorter obit in the Toronto Star on Dec 28, 1950, page 20.  Has essentially the same information.

There is a family tree that says Dudley died 1950 in Toronto and Agnes died 1964 in England while visiting her sister.  It also says that their children were Catherine Adela Snape (1922-1980) and Dudley Barrington Snape (3 Nov. 1928-Sept. 1977), who both died in Toronto.

Dudley B died in 1978... obit in the Globe and Mail, Sept 12 1978, page 45.  He died on Sept 11 1978 at the Toronto Wellesley Hospital.  He had lived in Aurora (which is just north of Toronto).  Husband of Kay Brown.  Father of G, D (Mrs T Shaw), J, K and S.  (Will PM the names to you, in case they are still living).  Brother of Adela (Mrs J Sweetman).
