Dorothy Atkinson
« on: Friday 17 June 16 23:27 BST (UK) »
Dorothy Atkinson was married to John Story in Morpeth in1824. She was born in 1802 in Morpeth and her parents were Amos Atkinson and Mary Creighton. I have now found an Ann Atkinson born in Morpeth in 1799 with the same parents and presumed they were sisters, but Ann's birth entry states her as the 4th daughter and Dorothy's as the first daughter. I found the birth entries by scrolling through the Bishops transcripts.
Does anyone know anything about this family?
Many thanks
Margaret

Hi Margaret,
The records you are looking at are baptisms; do the BT's also have births written with the baptisms? Otherwise perhaps the daughters weren't baptised in order of birth. I have this in my own tree.
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

Thank you for your reply. These are birth years. I have wondered if the transcriber of the records perhaps misheard the word fifth daughter and wrote first instead????

Where are you looking at these records? Are you able to view the original?

Have you ever looked for the PR to see what is written in the register? Perhaps the error is from when the PR was transcribed to send off to the Bishop.
