Medical Records City & County Hospital Derry /Londonderry
« on: Monday 20 June 16 13:11 BST (UK) »
Hi, Can anyone shed any light on where the Medical Records are kept for the above Hospital which is long ago closed down?
I am interested in finding records of a Still born Birth for Circa 1948-49-1950
Thanks

Gransha records (formerly Londonderry City & District Asylum, etc.) are in PRONI so I would start by checking PRONI's e-catalogue to see if you can find the records you are looking for.

Thank you the city and county hospital that I am referring to was a general medical hospital  which was in northland road Londonderry when it was closed all general care was taken over by altnagelvin hospital
The londonderry lunatic asylum which was situated on strand road londonderry was moved to Gransha park in  the 1950s and is now gransha mental care hospital

I didn't say that Gransha was the correct hospital but merely that PRONI would be the logical place to start looking for records- the hospital you are interested in was, I think, on Infirmary Road.

Did you have any luck with this, someone close had a baby died at birth in City and County in 1953, the nurse took the baby away, she never saw it, the nurse named the baby and she was told it was buried in Derry City cemetery... That was the end of it... No baby, no burial place... Grateful for any help

That's okay. I do know from previous research pre-internet that some of the records I have from the Cemetery records don't appear in a search of the online index.

Aw, thanks for your reply. Oh really, I'm just across the border so when restrictions lift I'll be up to my parents grave so I might call into the wee house at the bottom when it opens n see what they say but I looked up the PRONI records online and found they have records on city n county hospital for something like 1952 to 1964 so I could do with checking that out, I think that's the dates, I went to that tab to check but it timed out but it includes 1953 the date my wee cousin was born... Thanks for answering and guiding my search, so kind of you
