James Mutch, Canal Street, Aberdeen 1908
« on: Wednesday 22 June 16 13:56 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

Does any one have information on James Mutch who resided at 19 Canal Street, Woodside in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1908?
Apparently he was a railway porter around that time.
What became of him? and who was he descended from?

Thanks for looking.....

No I've nothing other than what he did and where he stayed in 1908. I would guess he was aged around 20 (plus or minus 5 years or so)

There's a service record for a James Mutch b. c. 1890 residing in Aberdeen (1916). Gives an address of 1 Lamont (could be Lamond) Place. Aberdeen. Wife Jessie (Simpson). Occ. carter.
Canal St. is just 1/2 ml. away.
Does this ring any bells ?

Have you tried Scotlands People 1911 census to see if he is still at this address ? or the Valuation Rolls

Hi Kenny

Is this James Mutch living in Canal Street in 1908 perhaps a reputed father of a child born then?

There is a William Mutch and family living at 7 Canal Street in 1905 from the Valuation Rolls. He was born I think in Udny in 1867. Can't see a James connected to his siblings (parents Andrew Mutch and Barbara Webster).

With the occupation you mentioned for the James Mutch in 1908, there is this possible 1901 census entry:

Elizabeth Riddle 57 b. Glasgow
Robert Riddle 25 b. Glasgow
James Mutch 22 boarder, railway porter b. Aberdeen
Bella Brown 16 ward
Ronald M Mckennon 36 boarder

Address: 22 Petershill Rd Glasgow/Dennistoun

1911 doesn't have a James Mutch living in Woodside. There are several in Aberdeen age range 25-40.
