This photograph is of Members of a Bowling Club in Rochdale.  I found the photograph amongst some old possessions of my late father, who said that his father, John Thomas Taylor, was on the photograph.

On the back of the photograph was written the address “171 Whitworth Road”, on which information I have dated the photograph around 1897, as he was last living there during that year.  It has been suggested however, that the photograph was taken at a much later date than this.

Any ideas?

Post war-1920's I would suggest.
One or two men have collar bars which was a style started during WW1 but didn't reach the mainstream until the 20's.

Good evening,

Rather a mixture of dress here, most have turn down shirt collars but at least 4 have wing collars. Only 1 with a bow tie to go with it, several have what may be the club tie. Horizontal stripes, quite broad "dark" and white.

One man in shirt sleeves and waistcoat, several different jacket styles.

Jim, is the collar bar the use of a pin to join the collar behind the knot. I ask because my maternal grandfather always wore one like that. At least, until granny died and was no longer there to put it in for him. So until the end of the 60s, he only wore a collar to go out.

Correct.
They fell out of fashion somewhat when collar stiffeners were introduced in the late 20's.
