Hello all,

I am helping my father put together a family tree and have got as far as my Great, Great, Great Grandfather, who was William Ebenezer Bull born 1835 and died (on 25 February 1887 at 105 Robert Street, Regents Park, County of Middlesex) (sourced through the UK free probate search). As far as my research has found, he was married to Hannah Elizabeth Bull 1838-1918 and their eldest son was Ebenezer William Bull 1864-1948 of which I am a direct descendent.

I guess the reason I am posting is I would love any information regarding who his (William) parents were and the kind of occupation he had (basically the family line further back). Perhaps these might be outlined if I purchase the probate/will (does anybody know anything about that?). I have also heard family tales? (as I’m sure many do) regarding the fact that the family were quite ‘wealthy’ and indeed enough to support his son (Ebenezer) to become an owner of a number of fishing boats in Lowestoft, England. However I obviously have my doubts...

I have tried using a number of free and trial sources over the past few years, but William seems to always remain the extent of searches...

Many thanks for your time and all the best,

Kent

 ;D  Welcome to RootsChat  ;D

William and Hannah's marriage certificate will show his father's name and occupation.

Here they are in 1871

William Ebenezer's father is stated to be Ebenezer Bull on his marriage entry in 1863.  William's occupation is said to be a Painter, and Ebenezer is said to be a Cabinet maker. 1 June 1863 at Christ Church, Camden.  Hannah's father is said to be William Bull, a Bootmaker.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

There is this:

BAPTISM of: William Ebenezer BULL
Parish of St Giles, Northampton
Baptised, as an adult  on 6 Oct 1860
DoB: 7 Jan 1835
Parents: Ebenezer and Mary BULL
Abode: Lambeth in London
Trade: Painter

I would hazard a guess that in this case the abode and occupation refers to the Baptisee, not his father?

Cheers

PROBATE: Granted 11 December 1860, Letters of Administration  of the personal estate & effects of Ebenezer BULL  late of the Town of Northampton, publican, deceased, who died on or about 3rd Jan 1855 at the said Town, were granted at Northampton to William Bull of 2 Philadelphia Terrace, Mount Gardens, Lambeth in the County of Surrey, Painter,  one of the children of the said Deceased.
Effects: under £50

(so clearly, Ebenezer was deceased before son William married in 1863, even though that marriage cert didn't note that ).
