Albert Joshua Hasenclever, Remscheid
« on: Wednesday 29 June 16 15:05 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

My greatx3 grandfather was Albert Joshua Hasenclever. Naturalised British Citizen as of 1866 - his naturalisation papers detail that he came to Britain in 1863. I have no travelling information for him. He was a merchant and obviously travelled a lot. He died in Durban, a long way from his family at the time.

Anyway, throughout the records he is recorded as being from Remscheid, Nord-Westphalen, and being born in approximately 1840. His father's name is recorded as 'Josiah' on his marriage certificate.

This is all the information I currently have. I don't know any details about his religious affiliation. He had a son called Joshua, which of course could have some Jewish connotations, but is far from conclusive. For records or indices available online I haven't found this man anywhere.

If anyone is able to help me in my foray into German Genealogy I'd be very grateful.

Many thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

seems the Hasenclever's were and are a prominent family in Remscheid.

Geneanet has quite a few trees. http://en.geneanet.org/search/?name=HASENCLEVER&country=DEU&region=NWE&subregion=DUS&place=Ehringhausen%2C%2BRemscheid&ressource=arbre

Good luck , regards Peonie
