Fanny dolman m stephen Osborne 25.12.1882
« on: Wednesday 06 July 16 22:48 BST (UK) »
I'm struggling to find much info on Fannys dad Reuben/John dolman.   Fanny was born in Burton trent to Reuben and Elizabeth dakin in 1866.   Her dad Reuben is not the dolman family from Alrewas but Elizabeth was from Alrewas.   There appears to be a huge dolman family in Alrewas but this is definely not the right family.  My Reuben was from Derby. On her wedding certificate hfannys dad was a plumber  and named as John dolman.  Her husband stephen and Stephens dad were I think plumbers and lived next door to Fannys family in Burton.   I just can't get any real info on Reuben's dad as he is listed as Foulkes which doesn't seem to make sense.   Thank you to any help with this.

There  is a marriage transcription on FindMyPast for Reuben and Elizabeth.  Reuben is aged 24 giving a birth year of c1833 and Elizabeth is 19.  Both the dads are called John.

For occupations and where living at the time of marriage would mean buying the marriage cert.  The GRO ref is:-

Marriages Jun 1857
Dakin    Elizabeth        Burton on T.    6b   391
Dolman    Reuben        Burton on T.    6b   391

I've just found a baptism for a Reuben Dolman/Foulks on 4 March 1832 in Derby, parents are William Foulks and Sarah Dolman.  So that would explain the Foulks name.

Not absolutely sure.  On the face of it the baptism record would suggest that William is the father.  I did look to see if I could find a marriage between Sarah and William but I didn't do a thorough search.  Nothing obvious popped up.

You may wish to try and view the original baptism record to see if there is any further information on it.  I think there is usually where they are living and the occupation of the father.  Sometimes there are little notes added by the vicar that won't be included in the transcription.

There is a death for a Sarah Dolman in the March quarter of 1838 registered in the Burton on Trent district.  It's possible that this is Reuben's mother but without seeing the death certificate can't be sure and getting the cert. may not have any helpful information.  It depends on what information you have on the Dolman family.

So there you are, some information that you may wish to follow up.

If you have Derbyshire ancestors the following website is brilliant;
This link should take you to the 'Bastardy Records' - although I can't see an order issued for your couple;

http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~spire/Yesterday/

(There is much interesting information on this site for those with Derbyshire roots)

Nevertheless you may wish to check Derbyshire Archives just to see if an affiliation order was taken out against William Foulks.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.
