So we have everything on Gilbert M, if only his baptism could be found and then possible his mother's maiden name.  I've also started trying to find his older brother George but to no avail yet.

Not that it help your search one iota, but you might like to know that, according to 'The Era', in April 1892 Henry Clinton was gainfully employed playing 'Shifty Dick' in 'The Detective' by Alfred Cox at the Gaiety Theatre in Brighton   :D

There are 2 Public Member Trees for this Clinton family on ancestry.com if you have seen them or can get access to them. From ancestry and via the 1901 Census Spennymoor, County Durham is spelled wrong. That is what  got  me wondering what was going on. Will look further.
