Hi
Have been doing some more hunting I have found 2 William Hughes death records ( Elizabeth Murphy's 3rd Husband )

https://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD35-1-9p360j2k

https://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD35-1-54p153j2k

I also found  Death records for Elizabeth Hughes (no mention of husband)
https://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD35-1-16p173j2k

I am starting to think if she left him and maybe headed to South Australia or else where, I havnt investigated if any of her children left Tasmania and headed to the mainland, she might of followed.

I suppose there is even the prospect she left William Hughes and married someone else. The below record matches some areas of her life. Even the fact that Elizabeth on all her marriage records could not write and signed with a X mark

https://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD37-1-6p254j2k

Any help???????

I was thinking yesterday that one path might be following the children and seeing what happened to them. I can't see any reason why the death in SA is her except the age? It's not an uncommon name, and shipping arrivals in SA show others of her name. So yes, finding more about the children might reveal something.

It looks like the daughter Mary Ann PORTER married William COCK in 1843.  Their last child was born in Tas in 1848, then the next is born in South Australia in 1851.

Did you notice the name of the witness to the marriage of Elizabeth Hughes and Martin Cane in 1847: it's William Cock.  ;)

Just checking I have the right children Azabeer -

can't find any from Elizabeth and Alexander McKenzie

Richard Porter (1822)
Mary Ann Porter (1824)
William Porter (1826)
Elizabeth Porter (1828)
John Porter (1830-1830)
Jane Porter (1831)
Samuel Porter (1835)

And can't see any more to William Hughes.

Is that correct?

Correct. No children between Elizabeth and Alexander Mckenzie or Elizabeth and William Hughes.
All the children mentioned were fathered by John Porter as far as I know.
Im going to have a good hunt around South Australian archives, something else I remembered is Elizabeths daughter Jane Porter married Thomas Pitt. Thomas Pitt 's sister Margaret married Thomas Alexander and they both moved to South Australia, I don't know when they did this but they are both buried in the West Terrace Cemetery in Adelaide. Maybe just a coincidence, but who knows.
Will let you know what I find
thanks

looking at the daughter Elizabeth Porter - married James Hind in 1845. They have a son James in 1850 - I think the informant for the birth is Elizabeth Cane, grandmother (although it's a bit hard to read) and she signed with her mark.

What do you think? - looks like more evidence Elizabeth married Martin Cane in 1847.

Sorry, I meant their son William Thomas Martin in 1848 (interesting middle name too)

And the witness to the marriage of Jane Porter and Thomas Pitt in 1848 is ... Martin Cane.  ;D
