Were the ages of the children noted?  So according to Thomas's information he arrived in WA at the age of 15 and married in c1872.   Have you found Henry on the 1851 census?

Red warning....Ok I see your last post now....so will leave it too

Back again :)

I have not looked for Henry on the 1851 census, I don't subscribe to findMyPast etc.
I will see what else I can find about the children in reply #29

Hi,

Thomas Martin FitzGerald Cowan (born George Thomas Martin Cowan on May 12 1903) married Hannah Helena (known as Lena) Olsen (born May 12 1909) on 20 December 1929 at St Francis Xavier Cathedral Geraldton.  FitzGerald was his step-father's (James Hawkins FitzGerald) surname.  He later dropped the name Cowan but it was used on the marriage certificate.

Tom's parents were Walter William Cowan who died 13 November 1904 and Annie McInnes.  His siblings at the time of his father's death were Edwin Stuart (Aged 8), John Henry (6) and Walter William (3).

He was a POW in Selarang Camp Changi , Khonkan 55 km Camp Burma and Petchaburi, Nakom Chassi in Thailand.

Hope this is of some help.  It explains the Cowan/FitzGerald connection and the difficulty in finding birth information.
