Getting more info on people, places abd dates

As I dig further into the past I am find that some information doesn't even  have a date on it - just the name and place and sometimes not even the place. Can anyone recommend how I can get more information.

How far in the past are you referring to?
If you just find a name (no place and no date) how do you know whether it is the correct record, or in fact what record it is?
What country is your research?

Hi, the Country is England, I am looking at Ancestry and mostly it published the info required but sometimes it will just give the names and places but no date. Can you tell me if  there's a website which gives dates all the time. You can get a name repeated several times and nothing else. Do you know which is he best website to use.

John Drew married Ann Sword  around 1650-60 in Norfolk, a child also called John Drew. Any info on Ann Sword, would be appreciated. thank you for your trouble

It is really important to work backwards from what you know to the unknown and establishing connections before moving on.  Choosing the 'search all collections' option can sometimes be too vague
