Clean Up Request for Salvation Army Soldier
« on: Tuesday 26 July 16 18:59 BST (UK) »
Fellow Rootschatters

Came across this photo of my mother-in-law. One of only a few of her that exist of her as a young woman.

Can you work your magic please and clean her up.

Many thanks

Sherlock.

Hi Sherlock,
Such a lovely photo of your mother-in-law which, incidentally, took me back to when I was a young girl in the SA - but I think this photo has been printed the wrong way round.  (Remember the old negatives ...?)
For instance the bow of the bonnet was always to the left hand side of the head, and her coat is buttoned to the right rather than the left.
If you Google "Salvation Army bonnets" you will see lots of photos.
Hope you don't mind me pointing this out.
Best wishes and thankyou for reminding me of my youth!

Priscilla,
I'm sure you are right.     My grandfather's sister was in the Salvation Army, and the photo I have shows the bow to be on the side that you say it should be: at her left shoulder, or right as you look at the photo.      ...She was in the Salvation Army at Uddingston, and travelled down to the    Salvation Congress Halls at Clapton in London in Nov 1900, and had training there, along with many other women.     This was the headquarters of the S.A.       In 1913, she was sent out to India as a missionary.

Priscilla, I did wonder about the hat, but I wasn't sure. You are right, it does look better the other way round.
