Employment of John Johnson (London) 1820s to1850s and his children
« on: Thursday 28 July 16 03:02 BST (UK) »
Can anyone see how many other children did John Johnson and Mary have other than Henry Charles and Sarah Isabella who were baptised on the 2 July 1820 at St George in the East, London.  John Johnson was a mariner. Also did any of these children marry and when did they die. I need to track the employment of John Johnson who it is said was a “ship Captain” but I can only find mariner and stevedore and maybe a butler!!!
Thanks Tavy

I was looking at the census on FamilySearch and it has 'foreign' as John Johnson's birthplace. John and Sarah are 'Drumand'. There are several other families at the same residence.

Hello and thanks, yes there seems to be another John Johnson at same time, unless he had two families in two pots, one in London and one in Newcastle-on-Tyne. This is partly what I want to sort out.

I would think that there are dozens of other John Johnsons around at that time.  It was a very common name so the occupation is all important.
Have you looked at Lloyd's Captains Register to see if it has any further details about your man?  It may cover dates that are too late for your ancestor but it is worth a look if there is a chance he continued to work as a mariner after 1851.
How do you get back to him?

When and who did Henry Charles marry and what is the occupation of his father on the certificate?    Assuming it is after 1837.   The fact that the two children were baptised on the same day might mean one was older than the other.
