Holsworthy lookup request
« on: Thursday 28 July 16 03:04 BST (UK) »
Is there anyone who could please look up the christening record of Jane Staddon, born in the first three months of 1859 in Holsworthy, or possibly Pyworthy? I've seen her marriage record, where the space for her father's name just says "illegitimate" but I'd like to find her mother's name, and if any father's name was suggested at her christening. Thanks very much in advance!

Your best bet is to purchase her birth certificate.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Have you looked on census for her before she married?  She may be with her mother and other family members  :)

Right forget that bright idea I see she is a boarder, pauper or servant and not with any family  :(

Go with BumbleB suggestion!

Thanks for the replies. Yep, from censuses she doesn't seem to have led a family intensive life!

I think in the end I may have to buy the birth certificate, but I'm a little unwilling to go that way till I've exhausted all other routes, as it's not my line, but just a favour for a friend.

Cheers, anyway!

There's an OPC for Pyworthy who offers free look-ups - go to http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/DEV/Pyworthy and scroll down to Genealogy for the link.
However, Holsworthy baptisms are available for members of the Devon FHS to view online. (And that is where you need to look)

Thanks dob7, I'll contact the Pyworthy OPC. Unfortunately I live in Virginia USA so I'm not in a position to do any of my own lookups.
